These are the latest additions to our list of mirrors:
Machtelt Garrels conducted a check of the mirrors and updated the mirrors list. Over 300 official mirrors were checked for accuracy and up-to-date mirroring of the primary site. 97 mirrors were unavailable, out-of-date or did not display the correct content. Two weeks after contacting the maintainers of those mirrors, almost half of these cases could be resolved. The other half get two weeks more to correct the errors. If they have not rectified the situation by then, they will be removed from the mirror list. Currently, the list has 215 approved mirrors; for 65 mirrors the approval is pending.
David Lawyer wrote a very short Authors Guide titled "Writing a LDP Document". The LDP Authors Guide is a much bigger version with detailed information but the current document is short but useful and easy to comprehend. The draft with comments from others is available at http://lists.tldp.org/index.cgi?1:sss:8330:200501:llglikfdoinhhhoahfom.
The Linux Documentation Project (TLDP) and the Faculty of Journalism, Library and Information Science at Oslo University College have joined forces in an effort to improve the reader experience of the TLDP document archive.
For more than 10 years TLDP has authored and collected an ever increasing number of documents. These have been filed in an equally growing document structure that has shown itself to be less than optimal. An overhaul was recognized to be overdue and this time it was decided not to "go it alone" but rather contact the experts on this field: the library and information scientists.
Oslo University College accepted the invitation from TLDP and soon Gerd Berget decided to do a professional job of determining an efficient set of categories as part of a Master's Degree study in library and information science. The initial set of categories is available at http://lists.tldp.org/index.cgi?1:mss:8391:200502:jbdbakjaacfndkmflfhi. But the report itself, being over 100 pages, will take a while to be translated to English.
